volks workshop
Ever wondered whats in these interesting buildings set into the wall on Madeira Drive Brighton?
I was lucky enough to get a peak inside and its a real step back in time.
These are the workshops for the Volks Electric Railway, and they are full of atmosphere.
On three floors with the managing office above and a store below, these lovely rooms are lined with chocolate and cream painted wainscoting and house a multitude of spare parts and wonderful old power tools.
This really reminds me of my Grandfathers shed!
great typography!
Lovely perpetual calendar
Powered reciprocating hacksaw used to cut the track. It takes two hours to saw through one piece
proper signs
fly wheel drill I think- a belter!
This is a lump of the Red Arrow that Crashed at Brighton in 1980 after clipping a yacht mast.
The “garage” backs straight onto the chalk and has this large hole in the corner. This is a “chimney” that leads up to the road on the top
Its function isnt known.
Thank you to The Volks Electric Railway, especially Stuart Strong for this visit..I loved it!
The Volks Railway is after volunteers for the new season and beyond- its not only engineering and train-driving, there’s also gardening, painting and much more
